A stone dwelling set into the summit, with stunning Blue Ridge scenery framed by a curved wall of glass.
Crater is built into the mountain rather than on top of it — a low curve of stacked stone bermed into the summit, so from the drive it reads as part of the ridge itself. You could nearly walk past it. That is the entire trick, and one of the most remarkable reveals on the property.
Then you step through, and it opens. A curved wall of windows takes in the valley at once. The walls are adorned with a misty blue forest that rises toward a softly lit ceiling. Teal and mustard chairs, warm wood, lamplight — and out every pane, ridge after ridge going blue to the horizon. A geode does exactly this: rock on the outside, and then you split it and it is nothing but crystal.
Crater is the most secluded dwelling on the property. Out front, a clearing of sun-warmed boulders, a private fire pit, and more sky than you know what to do with invite you to stay awhile.

Other dwellings announce themselves with turrets, bright gables, or a spaceship silhouette. Crater does the opposite. Its low stone exterior settles quietly into the summit, with a broad wall of glass opening toward the view.
What it is really built around is the light. Morning fills the curve of windows, fog gathers in the hollows below, and evening turns the valley to slate and rose. High in Asheville's Land of the Sky, it is a room built around a stunning view.
Crater’s space-age personality meets three real Asheville places with substance behind the theme.
