Max sits out on the mountainside like something a mad Victorian tinkerer dreamed up between inventions — warm gold siding, enormous gears, a great spoked wheel, and a truck hood mounted above the front door. The deck reaches toward the Blue Ridge, rolling away blue and endless below.
Inside, the steampunk spell takes hold: a wall of interlocking gears and gauges, a caged industrial pendant glowing amber overhead, brass fixtures and Edison bulbs, a deep grey sofa and a jewel-teal velvet chair, and a bed dressed in white linen with the mountains framed in the window beside it.
